The Peralta Community College District Board of Trustees convenes tonight at seven in the boardroom at 333 E. Eighth St. The board’s breakneck review of new board policies and administrative procedures—goaded by a crushing ACCJC deadline—occupies much of the agenda.
PFT has bird-dogged the policy-and-procedure overhaul from the start. Questions remain about how deep some BPs and APs wander into collective bargaining territory. Still, the union has cooperated with the district to get through the BP/AP revamp efficiently, and PFT will work closely with the district in the months ahead to refine the new language.

*Ballots for PFT delegate elections to the 2013 CFT convention went out to faculty’s home addresses last week. Completed ballots are due at the PFT offices by Tues., Feb. 19, at 4 p.m. Please follow voting instructions carefully, and be sure to return your ballot to PFT HQ ahead of the deadline.
*The PFT Executive Council gets back on its regular first-and-third Thursday schedule, Th., Feb. 21, 3-5 p.m., at the union offices (500 E. Eighth St., Ste. B, Oakland). All faculty members are welcome to attend. PFT’s first general membership meeting of 2013, the third of the school year, is set for Th., Feb. 28, 12:15-1:30 p.m. at BCC. Constitutional amendments, spring elections, and ongoing contract talks top the agenda (RSVP for the BCC GMM at union@pft1603.org by Feb. 26, so we know much lunch to order). The final GMM of 2012-13 goes down Th., April 25, 3-5 p.m., at Laney. Stay tuned for details about the GMMs and lunchtime chapter meetings on your campus.
*PFT and district negotiators met Feb. 11 to continue talks on fee-based instruction and, more generally, benefits and wages, spillover from last year’s comprehensive contract settlement. Discussions pick up again Valentine’s Day, as the two sides meet to consider possible changes to counseling assignments.
