The Peralta Federation of Teachers (PFT) is the exclusive bargaining unit for the full­ time and part-time faculty of the District’s four colleges: College of Alameda, Berkeley City College, Laney College, and Merritt College. The Peralta Community College District is located in northern Alameda County and contains the cities of Alameda, Albany, Berkeley, Emeryville, Oakland, and Piedmont.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain membership information database, provide Hudson Audit materials
  • Maintain PFT website and PFT social media accounts
  • Help publish newsletters and other documents, both virtually and in hardcopy
  • Assist with meetings for the PFT Executive Council, campus meetings, general membership meetings, and other PFT meetings that may need administrative support
  • Take official minutes at union meetings
  • Facilitate PFT elections
  • Handle phone calls, email, and other correspondence
  • Maintain electronic and non-virtual files
    • Purchase, organize, and maintain supplies for office, including office equipment
    • Provide information regarding membership benefits, coordinate dues/fees and membership status issues between PCCD Payroll Department and faculty
    • Assist in preparing, editing, formatting and distributing PFT’s communications
    • Other duties as assigned by the PFT President

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent

Strong oral and written communication skills

Experience managing databases, using Microsoft Office products, updating websites, and maintaining social media accounts (e.g., Twitter, Facebook)

Excellent people skills

Ability to problem-solve and work independently

Desirable Qualities

Demonstrated interest in unions and labor

Compensation:

$24.15 per hour with increases based on faculty raises; four weeks paid vacation plus health and dental; eligibility for PFT-funded SEP-IRA
