My name is Kimberly King, and I am running for PFT Vice President to help build an even stronger union that fights for the salary, working conditions, and respect faculty deserve.
The PFT Vice President chairs the Membership Committee, and I am excited about the opportunity to grow our membership, increase member involvement, and strengthen our collective power.
If elected Vice President, my priorities will be to work collectively with PFT leaders and members to:
• Fight for a meaningful salary increase that reflects today’s cost of living and fairly compensates faculty for the work we do.
• Grow PFT membership so that almost all faculty are members. More members mean a stronger union and a stronger voice for faculty.
• Develop fair and safe agreements on the use of AI with the Peralta administration that protect faculty jobs, working conditions, and professional expertise.
• Improve working conditions for all faculty, including full-time and part-time instructors, librarians, coaches, counselors, nurses, and others represented by PFT.
• Increase PFT member involvement in PFT activities, organizing, and decision-making.
• Participate in the growing national labor movement advocating for greater investment in public education, protections of immigrants, and democratic rights.
A little about me: I have been a full-time Psychology instructor at Laney College for 11 years. I currently serve as PFT Diversity Chair, a position I have held for the past year and previously held from 2017–2020. Before coming to Peralta, I served as an officer in my local chapter of the California Faculty Association.
I am deeply committed to union organizing, collective action, and advocacy for faculty. As Vice President, I would bring a collaborative approach, along with my experience, energy, and commitment to the position of PFT Vice President. If elected, I look forward to working with all of you to build an even stronger union.
